Safety first:

  1. Flip your breaker OFF.
  2. Remove the battery from the frame.
  3. Tap the power button to drain residual voltage before wrenching.

Step-by-Step Install

1. Remove the Stock Controller

  1. Seat & side panels – Take off the plastic fairings to expose the controller bay.
  2. Ignition bracket – Remove the two 4 mm bolts and zip-tie the key switch out of the way.
  3. Lower tray & splash guard – Undo the five 3 mm hex screws.
  4. Controller bolts – Top (2 × 4 mm) and side (2 × 5 mm). Support the unit as you pull it free.
  5. Disconnect wiring:
    • Phase wires (Blue / Green / Yellow) — note orientation
    • Battery +/- (Red up, Black up)
    • CAN / hall / throttle loom

Tip: Put each bolt size in its own cup. You’ll reuse most of them.

2. Prep the EBMX X9000

  1. Verify the dip-switch label on the rear matches “Model X9000”.
  2. Confirm UVW posts are snug from the factory.
  3. Dry-fit the controller in the frame: check wire clearance behind the down-tube.
  4. If you ride mud/snow, smear dielectric grease on the loom seals.

3. Swap Phase & Battery Leads

Hand-thread each M6 bolt with split washer, then torque lightly — do not zip them in with an impact.

4. Mount the X9000 to the Frame

  1. Reuse the stock side bolts plus EBMX’s spacers (2–3 mm).
  2. Add a dab of Loctite to every fastener.
  3. Torque the controller to ~8 Nm (hand-tight plus ¼ turn).
  4. Reinstall the plastic splash tray — trim if the thicker controller touches.

5. Plug-and-Play Harness

  1. Pick the correct adapter:
    • Sur-Ron / X260: black-&-white 14-pin rectangular plug
    • Talaria Sting / R / XXX: round 7-pin plug (male-female)
    • E-Ride Pro: small gray 5-pin + phase sensor lead
  2. Seat connectors until you hear two clicks.
  3. Connect the 2-in-1 splitter: SW102 display + thumb-regen.
  4. Secure the Bluetooth dongle up high, away from the aluminum case (better signal).

6. Cable Management

  • Route excess loom behind the battery hoop on Sur-Ron / X260.
  • Zip-tie phase wires so they never rub the chain (Talaria).
  • Coil unused 3-pin brake switch wires and tape shut (E-Ride).
  • Re-install key switch bracket & plastics.

EBMX Mobile-App Setup

  1. Download “EBMX X-Tune” from the iOS App Store or Google Play.
  2. Pair via Bluetooth (default PIN 123456).
  3. Vehicle preset:
    • Sur-Ron Light Bee X
    • Talaria MX3 / MX4 / XXX
    • E-Ride Pro SS 2.0 / 3.0
  4. Battery preset:
    • 16 S stock (60 V)
    • 20 S 72 V (if upgraded)
  5. Throttle calibration: Follow the on-screen “zero / full send” prompts.
  6. Hall-sensor auto-detect: Lift the rear wheel and run the wizard.
  7. Power modes: Street / Enduro / Race — start at 300 phase / 70 battery and work up.

Field-Weakening Tip: 50 % is a safe starting point; +FW = higher top speed but hotter temps.

First-Ride Checklist

  1. No error codes on the app dash.
  2. Regen thumb lever returns smoothly.
  3. Bars turn lock-to-lock without tugging wires.
  4. Controller case is snug — re-torque bolts after your first heat cycle.
  5. Battery breaker back ON.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will the X9000 fit an E-Ride Pro SS 2.0 & 3.0?
A: Yes — use the E-Ride Pro harness and follow the same wiring order.

Q: What about water resistance?
A: IP67 sealed. Technically "Hose-down safe" but we do not recommended it. We always advise riders to avoid spraying water directly on the connectors. It's also recommended to cover disconnected harnesses with plastic bags and secure them with rubber bands to protects from water exposure.

Q: Can I keep the stock Sur-Ron display?
A: You can, but the EBMX SW102 shows live amps & temps. Worth installing.

Q: Does this void my OEM warranty?
A: Sur-Ron/Talaria/E Ride Pro factory warranty—yes. However, EBMX includes a 24-month manufacturer's warranty on their controllers and batteries.
