EBMX X9000 Controller Installation Guide

Pre-Installation Checklist

  • Turn your breaker off

  • Disconnect the battery and briefly power on the bike to discharge remaining current

  • Gather tools: Allen wrenches (2.5mm–5mm), scissors or Dykes, zip ties, electrical tape, Loctite, wobble-style ratchet (recommended)

What’s Included in the Box

  • EBMX X9000 controller

  • Mounting bolts and spacers

  • Phase wire bolts with lock washers

  • USB cable

  • Bluetooth dongle

  • EBMX display with regen thumb throttle

  • Sur Ron and Talaria wiring harnesses

  • 12V DC accessory wire harness

  • 2-to-1 splitter for display and regen throttle

* An additional EBMX wiring harness adapter may be required for specific bike models.

Remove Stock Controller

  1. Unbolt Panels and Controller

    • Remove side panel bolts, ignition bolts, and plastic tray (Allen 3mm–5mm)

    • Remove top controller bolts

    • Remove the plastic shield behind the controller (Phillips)

  2. Disconnect Wiring

    • Remove motor phase wires: blue, green, yellow

    • Remove battery power wires: red (positive), black (ground)

    • Unplug all connectors from the controller (CANbus plug will not be reused)

    • Set ignition unit aside without unplugging

  3. Remove Controller Unit

    • Take note of phase wire routing (down to motor) and power wires (up to battery)

    • Compare new and old controller for fitment reference

Prepare for Installation

  1. Prep Battery Wiring

    • Remove OEM tape and carefully split red/black battery wires for routing

    • Cut wire sleeve back just enough to allow flexibility (avoid damaging insulation)

  2. Organize Hardware

    • Sort bolts by size and match 5 large mounting bolts with lock washers

    • Set aside additional spacers for controller frame mounting

Install EBMX Controller

  1. Mount Motor Phase Wires

    • Yellow → far left terminal

    • Green → center

    • Blue → right terminal

    • Hand-tighten with Allen wrench (do not use power tools)

  2. Mount Battery Power Wires

    • Red → right terminal

    • Black → left terminal

    • Use supplied bolts and lock washers with Loctite

    • Tighten snug, not over-torqued

  3. Install Controller to Frame

    • Use included spacers and bolts

    • Apply Loctite to all threads

    • Reinstall plastic tray and brackets

    • Ensure wires are routed cleanly and not pinched

Harness & Accessory Wiring

  1. Install Sur Ron Harness

    • If you have a different brand electric dirt bike (E-Ride Pro, Talaria, etc) confirm that you have your EBMX adapting harness, if one is needed.

    • Install adapter to bike harness

    • Connect harness (or adapter) to controller input port using alignment notches and arrows

    • Optional: Wrap with electrical tape for weatherproofing

  2. Secure Unused Plugs

    • Tape off unused connectors and tuck away securely

  3. 2-to-1 Splitter Installation

    • Connect to display and regen thumb throttle

    • Route cables cleanly through frame

  4. Install Bluetooth Dongle

    • Plug into controller and secure away from metal for best reception

  5. Cable Management

    • Use zip ties to secure wiring to frame and brake lines

    • Avoid over-tightening to allow minor wire movement

Mobile App Setup

  1. Install EBMX App

    • Download from iOS App Store or Google Play (search “EBMX”)

  2. Connect Controller

    • Open the app and pair with your EBMX X9000 via Bluetooth

  3. Basic Settings

    • Vehicle: Sur Ron Light Bee (Our example)

    • Motor: Stock (Change this if you've upgraded your motor)

    • Battery: 16s Stock (Check your owner's manual for specs)

    • Direction: Counter clockwise

    • Units: Fahrenheit, MPH

  4. Throttle Calibration

    • Run twist and thumb throttle calibration through app

    • Follow prompts for zero input and full input cycles

  5. Hall Sensor Calibration

    • Lift rear wheel before beginning

    • From settings, select “Hall Sensor Calibration” and start

    • Let it run and save when complete

  6. Save Settings

    • Be sure to save each time you finish a configuration section

Final Steps

  1. Reinstall Battery

    • Drop battery into tray and reconnect

    • Turn on breaker and bike

  2. Check Display

    • Confirm display powers on and shows:

      • Speed (MPH)

      • Voltage

      • Power level

      • Motor and controller temperature

  3. Test Handlebar Controls

    • Ensure no contact between throttle, display, and brake levers

    • Route and secure wires so they don't bind during steering movement

  4. Mode Switching

    • Press and hold the display’s lower button to switch between Street and Race modes

    • Tap through Power Levels 1–3 within each mode
