Brakes not strong enough or too strongUpdated a year ago
While going fast on an eScooter is great, slowing down is just as important. In this guide, we'll discuss how you can tune your brakes, and troubleshoot issues with brakes not being strong enough or too strong.
How to tell which types of brakes my eScooter has
Knowing which type of brakes you have on your eScooter will help you solve issues with higher precision. See the following visuals to tell which type of brakes you have:
Drum Brakes
Drum brakes generally have a circular insert that goes in to the motor, and a spring-loaded cable that engages the brake. Drum brakes do not have a disc. The VSETT 8 and NAVEE S65C have Drum Brakes.
Mechanical Disc Brakes
Mechanical Disc Brakes feature a cable-actuated caliper, and a disc. The VSETT 9+, VSETT 10 SINGLE MOTOR, NAVEE V40, and NAVEE V50 have mechanical disc brakes.
Hydraulic Disc Brakes
hydraulic Disc brakes do not have a cable, instead they have a hydraulic line with a fitting that goes directly in to the brake caliper. They also have a disc. The VSETT 10+ and VSETT 11+ have hydraulic disc brakes.

Try a brake adjustment
Thankfully, Mechanical brakes can be adjusted by tightening and loosening the cable they are operated by. For an overview of this process, please see the following resources:

Replace your brake pads / brake drum
If you are still having issues after a brake adjustment, you may need to replace your brake pads.

Brakes not strong enough or too strong on Hydraulic Brakes
Try a brake adjustment
Hydraulic brakes can be adjusted by adjusting the caliper position. For an overview of this process, please see the following resources:

Replace your brake pads / brake drum
If you are still having issues after an adjustment, you may need new brake pads or brake rotors (discs).

Bleed your brakes
Hydraulic brakes (hence the name) feature a hydraulic system to operate. Over time, the hydraulic system may need to be bled - this removes any air bubbles in the system and allows you to tighten the braking response.
