Electric Scooter Brake Sensor adjustments

Electric scooters use a sensor system to detect that you're pulling the brakes. When brake grabs are detected, the scooter will do the following:

- Turn off power to the motors, and start regenerative braking (where the motors act as brakes)

- Display a symbol on the throttle screen

- Turn on the brake lights

Common issues caused by brake sensors

- Scooter turns on but won't move

- Brake lights won't come on

Troubleshooting scooter turns on but won't move

1. Turn your scooter on and unlock it.

2. Check the display for any indicator that the brake sensor is activated. On VSETT scooters, there is a red exclamation point, and the brake lights will be on

3. If you are seeing this, your brake sensors need to be adjusted. Please scroll down to the brake sensor adjustment section for instructions.

Troubleshooting brake lights won't come on

If your brake lights won't come on, and your scooter doesn't enter regenerative braking move when you brake, its likely your brake sensors need to be adjusted. Please scroll down to the brake sensor adjustment section for instructions.

Hydraulic vs Mechanical brakes

Knowing which type of brakes you have on your eScooter will help you solve issues with higher precision. See the following visuals to tell which type of brakes you have:

Drum Brakes

Drum brakes generally have a circular insert that goes in to the motor, and a spring-loaded cable that engages the brake. Drum brakes do not have a disc. The VSETT 8 and NAVEE S65C have Drum Brakes.

Mechanical Disc Brakes

Mechanical Disc Brakes feature a cable-actuated caliper, and a disc. The VSETT 9+, VSETT 10 SINGLE MOTOR, NAVEE V40, and NAVEE V50 have mechanical disc brakes.

Hydraulic Disc Brakes

hydraulic Disc brakes do not have a cable, instead they have a hydraulic line with a fitting that goes directly in to the brake caliper. They also have a disc. The VSETT 10+ and VSETT 11+ have hydraulic disc brakes.

Mechanical and Drum brake sensor adjustment

Mechanical brake sensor issues are typically a result of the brakes needing to be adjusted - where the brakes aren't tight enough to trigger the brake sensor. *VSETT 8 Only: VSETT 8 brakes may need to be adjusting per the following video: https://youtu.be/cNGeiS1VGk8

Hydraulic brake sensor adjustment

1. On the brake levers, unscrew the brake sensor a 2-3 turns. See below where I've circled the brake sensor. Note - the sensor is held in by a small lock screw, please loosen this before adjusting the sensor. Pictures below

Brake sensor lock screw (loosen before adjusting sensor, and tighten after adjusting)

Brake sensor (unscrew 2-3 turns on both brakes) and try pressing the brakes to ensure the brake light is still coming on when the lever is pressed
